Shawtime is a contrafact based on the solo changes of MOONTRANE, a standard by the great jazz trumpet player Woody Shaw. It’s fitting that two trumpet soloists are featured on the piece. There is a battle between them as the piece progresses. There is also featured solo space for guitar (or piano) and drums. One of the trademarks of a Caffey swing chart is the saxophone soli – this chart has a great one that the saxophonists will love!  Shawtime is included on the CD, ALL IN ONE by the David Caffey Jazz Orchestra.
